After escaping war-torn Lebanon following the bombing of the family's chocolate factory, Tareq Hadhad and his Syrian family come to the little Canadian hamlet of Antigonish. Issam, Tareq's father, begins producing chocolates again, which are a hit at the local church. Neighbor Frank solicits local investors for a new factory, while local chocolatier Kelly is frightened by the competition. Tareq is divided between his desire to become a physician and his commitment to the family business as Issam's "Peace By Chocolate" business continues to expand.
