The conflict leaves him wounded when the outlaw that murdered his family is confronted by Lane McCrae. He is visited by the Devil, who offers him a deal which could save the lives of both his brother and he, but makes him a bounty hunter for Hell. When Zathera walks the earth, it's around Lane, Hawk along with their team, to discontinue her until she overlooks humanity. They aren't the only ones hunting Zathera yet - there are others who want to accomplish Zathera first!
